🐛 [firebase_crashlytics] recordError crash in version 2.7.0 and up #8554

Bug report

After upgrading from 2.6.3 to 2.7.1 I noticed the app would crash anytime I call recordError.

Reverting back to 2.6.3 fixes the issue.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Upgrade to version 2.7.1
  2. Call it anywhere:
FirebaseCrashlytics.instance.recordError('some error', null);

It would crash on both debug and release mode. I tested in IOS only.

I cloned Master branch in https://github.com/firebase/flutterfire and added it in pubspec yaml this way:

@YDA93, rather than test the Crashlytics example app, have you tried cleaning out your app (flutter clean), using the latest stable flutter version (flutter upgrade) and starting fresh with the latest Crashlytics version - 2.7.2?

Hey @YDA93,

  1. You need to clone FF repo.
  2. Install melos
  3. run melos boostrap from root of project which ensures you're using Crashlytics master branch code as dependencies.
  4. Go to Crashlytics example app directory on command line and run flutter run --no-pub.
  5. Alter code in Crashlytics example here.

I migrated to Flutter 3 and updated firebase_crashlytics to ^2.8.0 and all Firebase dependancies to latest.

I tested on both iPhone 11 Pro Max and Samsung S9+.

Unfortunately the issue persists in IOS.

Reverting back to 2.6.3 fixes the issue.

@russellwheatley Sorry it was very stupid out of me. I found out that i already override firebase-ios-sdk version in pod file to reduce build time.

For anyone who is having this problem make sure to remove $FirebaseSDKVersion from your podfile and update to the following case you are already reducing Firestore build time.

@YDA93 I assume many flutter developers dont get involved much with those pod files, I don't believe I did any sort of overriding and the issue still reproducing for us. I would expect to some solution from flutter side without touching any iOS file. are you sure the issue should be closed?

I fixed it by removing $FirebaseSDKVersion line from ios pod file.

If you didn't touch the podfile then your problem is somewhere else in the code, file a new issue with reproducible example.

For me, the crash comes when there's a layouting error, otherwise non-fatal, where a RenderFlex overflows the screen. So it's particularly annoying, because I can't even debug and lay out the screen properly, as it crashes on every load.
