We know this is a popular request and it is definitely something we plan on tackling in the future. Adoption of the web version of GeoFire 2.0.0 will influence how high of a priority this is.
Folks should be happy to hear that this is now under active development!
@jacobawenger is it possible for Firebase to develop the ports in an open way so the community can help in the development?
@vishwapatel - The code will most definitely be open sourced. The API will almost certainly be the same as the API we developed for the JavaScript client, which was developed with a lot of community feedback and engagement. I don't know when the iOS or Android code will go up on GitHub, but we are always happy to look at feedback, bug reports/fixes, and pull requests from the community. I'll try my best to get our code on GitHub as soon as we have something to show. Is there something in particular you had in mind?
@jacobawenger nothing particular in mind at the moment, but thanks for building this!
@djkmiles @liweihan @vishwapatel -- can you email me please? We'll have objective-c and java versions ready to go soon and we'd like your feedback! andrew@firebase.com
@jacobawenger I look forward to using the Objective-C port GeoFire 2.0.0. BTW, I looked for this when I was building a client application but had to settle with using some additional 3rd party services to satisfy those requirements for geospatial queries. Please keep me posted about this SDK for Objective-C.
@conradwt - if you shoot me an email (address above) I can get you beta access in a bit.
I'm extremely excited to announce that this issue can be officially closed! We now have production-ready versions of GeoFire for Objective-C and Java. Check them out and let us know what you think!
