Failed to upload exploit data #13

ljex commented 7 years ago

Hi there,

I'm trying to jailbreak ATV2 6.2.1 with Seas0nPass 0.9.8 (OSX Sierra), but I'm still getting error after I entered to DFU mode. There are 3 messages showing over and over again:

  1. Preparing oversize
  2. Resetting DFU
  3. Failed to upload exploit data

I stuck there.

Does anybody know what it could be?

Thanks a lot in advance!

nghtstr commented 7 years ago

I am also having the same problem. Running 10.12.4 beta 3. But it goes through the same exact process. I am going to try it with Windows 10 here shortly.

tonyarnold commented 7 years ago

@nghtstr did Windows 10 work?

ReactorShop commented 7 years ago

I updated the Apple TV 2 jailbreak from the untethered 5.3 to the tethered 6.2.1 using OS X 10.11.4 El Capitan and Seas0nPass 0.9.8 with no issues. Then, I proceeded to update my mac to OS X 10.12.4 Sierra.

After a few days, The first time I entered the A&E app and tried to watch some content, it caused the Apple TV 2 to stop responding (blank screen), so I unplugged it and try to boot tethered in my OS X Sierra Mac, and had the same problem as @ljex explains.

@tonyarnold trying the windows version in Windows 10 doesn't work because of this issue.

Same error on macOS Sierra 10.12.4: Failed to upload exploit data

thejdhull commented 7 years ago

I'm right there with you, was there ever a fix for this?

antoine1280 commented 7 years ago

Same problem here. Just keeps cycling over and over. Any one know of a fix? Sierra 10.12.4

lechium commented 7 years ago

sorry this project is no longer maintained, between my full time job and AppleTV 4 work i just don't have time to keep fighting against apple breaking their USB stack with their half baked updates.

pablobernardo commented 7 years ago

Windows version works.

avisual commented 7 years ago

could I/we make a donation to resolve this issue?

lechium commented 7 years ago

the last time i had to fix usb related stuff due to their ineptitude it took me over a month and it cost probably about 4/5k in development. i dont think anyone wants to donate the amount it would cost me to focus on it. on top of the fact that my full time job and other newer appletv stuff would still take precedent. plus i cant guarantee i can even fix it for everyone.

avisual commented 7 years ago

Thanks for your honest and reply. If this amount is raised would you be happy to undertake the work?

So i've actually tested it on 10.12.5 on my laptop, and it worked fine. so theres really nothing i can do at the moment to try to decipher why this issue is happening for people.

avisual commented 7 years ago

I have cloned the project. Will take a look this week. Not really played with objectivec. So might be a fun week as I'm a java/python Dec. Thanks for a your response. ATv running latest software and mac is up to date. Anything I'll need to do to set the project up?

there shouldnt be anything extra. if you have never done any objc dev this projects probably not the best starting place, plus shatter is incredibly difficult to get under reliable control. to understand how it works and troubleshoot it takes tons of experience. unless you have a LOT of time to burn...

I was having this problem jailbreaking my ATV2 on Sierra, but tested on High Sierra and it worked fine. I was able to jailbreak my ATV2 .

I am having the same problem... running on MAC OS Sierra 10.12.6... SeasOnPass 0.98

Then tried to use iTunes v12.08 (current) to RESTORE ... same issues when try to jail break. Then tried to use iTunes v12.08 (current) to RESTORE but using the IPSW created by SeasOnPass (in Documents\tether folder) ... seemed to complete... but notice after restore, it restores firmware.

Tried SeasOnPass again with HELP_log file open to watch status... SeasOnPass seems to get further now... able to upload exploit data... However, it hangs at "Resetting the Device" ... log shows unresponsive... So ATV remote MENU+V until flashing LED and then MENU+> seems to continue process... Until next "Restting the Device" ... same hang, so perform manual reset... Then gets to IBSS.k66ap.RELEASE.dfu sent.... which according to log file us sent successfully... w RC = 0 ... BUT [ERROR] DeviceRequestTO failed with code 0xe0004061 get_status

iBEC sent Restore mode Done! <tetherKitAppleDelegate: 0x6100001d97d0> shatter finished .... looks like firmware updated ... now to use iTunes to RESTORE IPSW processIPSW iTunes reported 11.1 (when actually 12.08) DFU mode device connected w ECID registered new client tracking 1 clients eventHandler handleNewDevice DeviceRequest failed: 0xe0004061 unhandled error 0x0004061 returned as 2009 AMAuthInstallBundleCopyBuildIdentityForVariant failed AMRAuthInstallCopyBuildIdentity failed failed to copy variant Clearing NVRAM : error opening USB device

Appears IPSW not restored properly from calls in SeasOnPass, however attempting to perform rest with iTunes manually w OPTION+RESTORE pointing to tether 6.2.1 IPSW fails to work.... Although ATV 2 will reboot at factory resets after this process ... without jail break.

Wondering if OLD version of iTunes would solve problem? I tried this also on MAC OS X Yosemite 10.10.5 and iTunes 12.08 (auto update)... same issues.

I've attached SP log file if someone wants to take a look...

SP_Debug.log

Thoughts? Fixes?

cnwtech commented 5 years ago

Updating to MAC OS High Sierra does not resolve the problem. Re-imaging the ATV 2 to v5.3 from v6.2.1 does not resolve the problem. Looks to be issue w Seas0nPass issuing commands to iTunes/environment and not getting expected results as part of build process. If someone had a SP log file showing what should happen, this would be helpful to debug further. As it is, don't know expected results.

JZschache commented 4 years ago

I had the same issue on Mac OS X Yosemite (10.10.5).

I solved it by downgrading iTunes from 12.8. to 11.4.

Hi All,

i done the 6.2.1 jailbreak today with MAC OS Yosemite and itunes 12.2.1.16. it was running without any issues :) So the Seas0nPass 0.98 is still working to jailbreak tethered TVOS 6.2.1. ;) You just have to downgrade your systems
