Hi @Drishti-jain21, I watched the video you shared. Great effort on it. I'm proud of you doing this to help others.
I have some disagreements with the content of the video though.
I understand that you're showing adding a br
tag to Readme as an example. But a lot of viewers wouldn't take it as an example. They would literally do the exact same thing you did in other public repos. This would waste maintainers' time and annoy them.
I know this will happen because this has happened before. I know an incident from 2020. Here's some links to know more about what happened twitter thread, reddit thread a blog post about the after effects
This incident was critical enough to force DigitalOcean to change how Hacktoberfest worked.
To my best knowledge, that person who made that video was not acting with malicious indent. They were trying to teach people with an example. However, in the end, they caused trouble for a bunch of people.
So, I'm thinking linking this video would cause more harm than good.
My suggestion: If you're interested, make a video following our vscode tutorial. I'm pretty sure beginners would appreciate a video walk-through. Also, in the spirit of open source, how about using peertube for hosting the video and OBS for recording the video?
Thank you so much for the feedback. I will definitely make a new video in a better way. I am sorry for the inconvenience
You don't have to anything to apologise for. It's all good.
All the best for your upcoming video. Do ask if you have questions.
Hello mam, can u assign me this issue. I would love to grab this opportunity.
It would be nice to have a video explaining why video tutorials are not always a good idea
I recently made a video on how one can contribute to repositories using GitHub Desktop and Visual Studio Code. This can be useful for the first-time contributors.
I would like to add the link to this repository so that it can reach many people. https://youtu.be/PGaRg3Fp6II
