xpi file corrupted #79

Trying to install page-speed for FF 3.5b4 in Fedora 11. Got this error:

Firefox could not install the file at 

file:///tmp/page-speed.xpi

because: Not a valid install package
-207

Firebug version installed is 1.4.0b2

It looks like that the xpi file downloaded is always corrupted.

The page-speed I'm trying is 1.0.1.1

Downloaded also with Opera and the same result. Trying to open it with the 
archive
manager shows this message:

  End-of-central-directory signature not found.  Either this file is not
  a zipfile, or it constitutes one disk of a multi-part archive.  In the
  latter case the central directory and zipfile comment will be found on
  the last disk(s) of this archive.
zipinfo:  cannot find zipfile directory in one of 
/home/cpn/Download/page-speed.xpi or
          /home/cpn/Download/page-speed.xpi.zip, and cannot find
/home/cpn/Download/page-speed.xpi.ZIP, period.

You have to install pagespeed.xpi by fetching the URL in firefox.  If you go to 
this
page:

http://code.google.com/speed/page-speed/download.html

*in firefox*, and click on the "install page speed 1.0.1.1 beta" button, do you 
get
the error?  (You need to install the beta because the released version, 
1.0.0.0, does
not support Firefox 3.5)

That was the first thing I did. Only downloaded manually after that failed.

Can you try installing in the latest release candidate?  Choosing 'Check For 
Updates...' from the firefox help 
menu should get you 3.5rc2.

When I run zipinfo on page-speed.xpi, I do not get the error.  Lets see if the 
file
is being truncated.  See if you get a file with the same size and md5sum as I 
get:

I ran into this same error when attempting to install into Firefox 3.5
on a Windows XP (SP3) machine.

I was able to work around the problem by using wget to retrieve the file
to a webserver that I control, and then install the .xpi from there.

I noted that the certificate used on the https: server didn't match when
I used wget, so I had to tell it --no-check-certificate -- perhaps this
problem is what is messing up the auto-install of the .xpi file?

Now it wgeted correctly without the --no-check-certificate. Didn't try to wget
before. And also installed directly from the download page clicking the install 
button.

The Analyze button does nothing but I guess that's another problem.

Is there anything unusual about your network configuration that might explain 
why the
download was failing?  For example, are you behind a NAT, do other apps show 
signs of
network flakiness, or are you on a VPN?

If clicking "Analyze Performance" after loading a web page does not show scores 
for
the page, than please open a new issue.
