This would be a really great enhancement! I used the tool from JustCarmen, too. But I think this feature would be great to be included and work "out of the box".
A few years ago, there were several websites with a search engine based on the Gendex file. The largest among them was Gendexnetwork.org. Today, this website no longer exists in its original form.
When webtrees 2 first came out, this site still existed. I had even created a test file for this website but I couldn't get it accepted. I tried to contact them but I got no response so I decided to let it go. Recently I found out that this website no longer exists in its original form. Currently the URL leads to another website without any trace of the former search engine.
As far as I know there is only one website that still uses Gendex files for their genealogical search engine. And that is the Dutch website https://www.stamboomzoeker.nl/ or its English counterpart (same website, different URL) https://www.familytreeseeker.com/ The second one is still a Dutch related search engine in the English language, so not of much interest to people without relatives in the Netherlands.
For me the above was the reason not to develop the Fancy Gendex module for webtrees 2 further. The area has become too small.
I can understand why you made this choice. Thank you for your efforts.
Creating a GENDEX file is a standard possibility in most genealogy software. In Webtrees 1.7 the module by JustCarmen made it possible to create one. I would like to have this possibility added to the Webtrees core.
