Hi @HolgerAusB, thanks for merging and your question.
To be honest, I was not sure about this one. My impression was that lead/feature images are mostly illustrative and don't carry as much value for the article itself compared to media that is found inside the body. So in this case it is simply personal preference (and oversight when it comes to selectors :) )
On the other hand, if there is a style guide or consensus, I'd be happy to comply with it
you are right, many times it is just a symbolic image, a stock photo. But sometimes it could be helpful content. But anyway, images are always a nice styling element which make articles look better. My opinion, not necessarily common sense.
