Autofocus textarea/content after opening a file / shortcuts not working after Ctrl-N/Ctrl-O

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Open a file

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
The text contents should have focus, i.e. I should be able to start typing
or browsing right away.

Also, no hotkeys are working, i.e. after Ctrl-N you cannot press Ctrl-N
again, without having clicked in the new file's window first.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
SVN trunk, Ubuntu Karmic.

no such problem under vista, svn version.
