I use MyTracks while out of contact with any cell towers.
I'd like to be able to see my position with terrain or satelite overlay while
out of contact.
Basically, I'm looking for MyTracks to be my outdoors/back-country/hiking GPS
app. I'd like to be able to download maps before I leave the cell and use the
most recent info to be able to track myself in the woods. I can imagine surfing
over my expected region of activity and then MyTrack would remember some amount
of recent maps (20MB, configurable) so I can look at them while I'm out of
contact.
Save a configurable amount of mapping/terrain/visual/satelite information to be
used while creating tracks.
I am a developer, but only C/C++ real-time embedded stuff. I don't know jack
about the guts of Android apps.
