@techcv Do you have Rich Notifications enabled in Chrome? chrome://flags/#enable-rich-notifications they work fine on my Arch Box with that enable, not as pretty as they are on OSX but that is because of Chrome.
That option isn't available on ubuntu apparently. The flag says "Sorry, this experiment is not available on your platform."

This should all be fixed up with Chrome 35's release - it brought the app launcher and Chrome notification center.
I see that desktop notifications are a key feature but I can't seem to enable them on Ubuntu 12.04 running Chrome:
Google Chrome 34.0.1847.116 (Official Build 260972) OS Linux Blink 537.36 (@170605) JavaScript V8 3.24.35.22 Flash 13.0.0.182 User Agent Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/34.0.1847.116 Safari/537.36
Is there a special flag to get them to work that I'm missing?
