I can see why this would be useful but when this has come up in the past we decided it's out of scope for flameshot since we are not a full image editor.
On Linux I just pipe through imagemagik.
I'd like to get @mmahmoudian and @veracioux thoughts before closing though.
I have mixed feelings about this. When we discussed it before, it was because some one wanted to post it on a blog or something and it felt like a one-time thing, but in case of @BlazingFire007 they want it enabled for everything. But as far as I understand it is a niche case and majority of users will not use it if it is something that is set in config and is applied on all screenshots.
I believe this is a post-processing step and it should be dealt with in a plugin system. Perhaps it's the best entry level example plugin that we can even provide ourselves as example on how to make plugins for Flameshot.
@mmahmoudian I think the best way would be some kind of toggle. I really would need it mostly when screenshotting usage of any software that I make. Maybe even a keyboard shortcut? Right now I use Command + Shift + X
for the screenshot. Then Command + U
for the upload. Would be sick to have an optional Command + D
or something before the upload that would downsize it. Though I understand if this is niche enough to not warrant something like that.
I will look into the plugin system though. Thank you guys for considering!
@BlazingFire007 we don't have the plugin system yet, but there has been a long discussion about implementing one.
I myself have solved this problem with a little wrapper software I wrote for Flameshot (I don't think it would work on macOS although dmenu-mac exists).
I suggest you look into using the automator of your mac to solve this for the time being:
Feature Description
Are there any plans/options to downsize the screenshots I take on my Macbook with retina/HDPI display?
The screenshots of small sections are comically large when uploaded to imgur.
Example
Retina
Downsized
Most of the time this isn't a problem. But if the screenshot is viewed by someone with a smaller screen it can be too big.
