Everything becomes very bright while using HDR in Windows 11 #3151

Flameshot Version

12.1.0

Installation Type

Using the ready-made package from Github Releases

Operating System type and version

Windows 11

Description

While using HDR in Windows and taking a screenshot using Flameshot then everything selected for screenshot becomes very bright.

Disabling HDR fixes the issue. Re-enabling HDR brings it back.

Although, I noticed for a short instance while fiddling around with the value of option "Opacity of area outside of selection" that the issue was gone. But after a minute or so the issue came back again. I have not been able to reproduce this opacity work-around since.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Enable "Use HDR" in graphical options in Windows 11
  2. Take a screenshot

I can confirm this issue. Not sure if there's anything flameshot can do about it, however.

"Updates a known issue that might prevent some image editing programs from rendering colors correctly on certain high dynamic range (HDR) displays. This frequently affects white colors that might display in bright yellow or other colors."

But, microsoft bullshits are everywhere, they didn't fix anything.

If the xbox game bar can do it, then flameshot needs to add the "feature" to capture HDR screenshots. I think it depends on the color profile. HDR uses.. sRGB?

But hey there I don't want to turn that off.

saulob commented 6 months ago

The problem is back, even with the "Streaming video HDR" option disabled :(

No fix for you guys? Flameshot v12.1.0

Windows 11 is getting the HDR fix in the Snipping tool, maybe Flameshot can get this fix too?

Got the new version of Snipping Tool, turned one the "HDR screenshot color corrector" but no change. The screenshots still look like over-exposed.

Any fix for this? It's kinda weird because while it's definitely not a Flameshot issue (Lightshot also has the problem) it sometimes works fine.

saulob commented 1 week ago

No fix. There's no update on the program since 2022 :(
