Flameshot stopped running #347

Kubuntu 18.04. flameshot 0.6.0. I installed flameshot a long time ago, but did not use it. Today I decided to start using it. I studied it and tested it. he worked. I wanted to run it through the command flameshot gui -p / home / kot / bin. But flameshot did not start. Now it does not start at all. The flameshot gui and flameshot config commands do not work. After their input nothing happens. I rebooted the system. Entered the command pkill flameshot. Removed flameshot.ini and flameshotrc. Nothing helped.

I found in the official sources the old version of flameshot 0.5.1. it starts and work. It is very strange…

Try with gdb, maybe it gives more information:

pkill flameshot
gdb -ex run flameshot

The flameshot gui command still does not work.

Is that all the output? Aside from theme errors it doesn't give much info.

While using the previous command run on another tab/window in your terminal:

dbus-monitor --profile

Also try using another theme, but I don't think that's the problem.

Also try using another theme, but I don't think that's the problem.

I have one more question. When installing the old version 0.5.1 in the main menu there are two icons for flameshot and its settings. When installing flameshot 0.6.0 in the main menu there are none.

I now tried to install flameshot 0.6.0 on a clean virtual machine. and there were three icons in the menu at once! and flameshot gui starts and works! this means that in my current system flameshot is broken or something prevents it from working. how to completely remove the flameshot from the system?

I'm not familiar with Ubuntu so you might want to use Google/DuckDuckgo for that, but you can try something like:

sudo aptitude purge flameshot
rm -R ~/.config/Dharkael

I restarted the virtual machine and in it flameshot gui also stopped running. After the installation, flameshot runs and runs before the reboot. after that it does not start.

By some miracle in the virtual machin it started to run on the icon! it runs in the system tray. I did this before, but there was no reaction. After that I in the console typed flameshot gui and flamshot config. And it worked. But without running flamshot In the tray these commands do not work! So if this is solved, it should be closed, because i think it wasn't a problem of the application.

This is a problem with a poor description of the operation of the application. It was difficult for me to understand the principle of starting and working. As I wrote earlier, If you right-click on the flamshot icon in menu, the standard menu + the menu for starting settings and the screenshot itself pop up. As far as I know, those are dbus actions, and they do the same as the CLI commands.

flameshot gui should run regardless if Flameshot is already running or not, because if it's not running it will start the application first, then do the action.

From your setup I can't help you finding what the problem might be, because I don't see any relevant information.

I've seen a similar issue in #307 and it seems to be a setup issue, not a problem in the application, because it would be present in all desktop environments, which is not the case.

Maybe I should create a FAQ or troubleshooting document and add it to the README. I've seen several duplicated issues of system related problems in the last weeks. Adding a link pointing to that document in the issue template could be a good idea too.

At 0.5.1-2 flameshot gui -r runs ok, at 0.6.0 flameshot gui does nothing. 18.04 Xubuntu
