Internal error: openssl test 0050 failed

Updated to the 1.17.5 and now opening the program I see this error message:

Internal error: openssl test 0050 failed

Any idea what's wrong?

Using Linux Mint 20.3 Cinnamon.

Had problems trying to rip a disc. Tried lots of older commits (1.17.4 / 1.17.3 / 1.17.2 versions) and still the same Internal error: openssl test 0050 failed comes up.

MakeMKV used to work just fine. Anyone understands what's wrong?

All discs, even discs I have previously ripped just fine, give these kind of errors:

Scsi error - ILLEGAL REQUEST:COPY PROTECTION KEY EXCHANGE FAILURE - AUTHENTICATION FAILURE
Scsi error - ILLEGAL REQUEST:COPY PROTECTION KEY EXCHANGE FAILURE - KEY NOT ESTABLISHED
Can't read AACS VID from disc - most likely current AACS host certificate is revoked by your drive
The volume key is unknown for this disc - video can't be decrypted
Failed to open disc

"Key exchange failure"... sounds something like what openssl would do.

Yep, installing MakeMKV + java to Windows 10 (in VirtualBox), all discs work (fortunately I have an USB BD drive, so it's easy to passthrough it to vbox).

EDIT: Now just need to fix this openssl problem so I could continue to use MakeMKV in linux.

Same on Fedora 38. I switched to the snap version for now, definitely a flatpak issue.

The problem is in org.kde.Platform. It can be worked around by temporarily reverting that runtime with:

Use sudo if you installed the MakeMKV flatpak to the system

flatpak update --commit 4acf51659d6c2c5a07ef0cdcdceeb649f93f46ed04ace8ed6d2b104c920729a9 org.kde.Platform/x86_64/5.15-22.08

Further testing will need to be done to see exactly what the next steps are.

I can confirm that the org.kde.Platform/x86_64/5.15-22.08 workaround works on Pop OS. Is there any traction on whether this issue would remain if the dependancy from MakeMKV was updated to org.kde.Platform/x86_64/5.15-23.08?

Hi y'all. I have this same error on Debian 12 (KDE Plasma & Gnome). I'm in the middle of attempting to rip my entire disc collection...

The workaround posted by @timway worked for the first three days (And for some reason needed to be run every 24 hours as the error would return). Today, it's no longer working. Multiple tries running the "workaround" and reboots, and nothing. The error remains and I can't do anything.

EDIT: Just installed my first program via compiling from source from https://forum.makemkv.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=224 and works ferfectly.

Switching the runtime worked out for me - I had been convinced that it had something to do with my drive's AACS host certificate being revoked until the next version of MakeMKV would be released. Never thought about the possibility of it having to do with the installation itself. I had a nagging suspicion that it had something to do with the workstation I was using though, because testing it on a Windows install with the same disc and disc drive threw no errors whatsoever.
