Hello everyones, today i'm facing an issue.

I try to get Proton Experimental bleeding-edge as they updated it for CEG...

Unfortunately, only proton listed as "Proton 6.3-7 (community Build 1633097750)" do work in flatpak version of Steam.

So i was wondering if it's would be possible to have "Proton 6.3-7 (community build 1633097750)" + "Proton experimental (community build ##########)" and finally "Proton experimental bleeding-edge (community build ##########)" in the list.

If it's required extensive humain work, pardon my request, i do expect something mostly automatic. I'm also assuming that "Proton 6.3-7 (community build 1633097750)" is the stable channel.

Thanks for your time, Eric

There is a community build of Proton experimental (not bleeding-edge). It doesn't work for you or you just don't see the option? In the second case, make sure you're running Steam flatpak stable branch and have com.valvesoftware.Steam.CompatibilityTool.Proton-Exp installed.

While most of Proton-experimental flatpak build updates are mostly automatic, every Nth update does require some human work, sometimes extensive.

I was totally missing the "com.valvesoftware.Steam.CompatibilityTool.Proton-Exp". I did install it. CEG fix isn't in Experimental yet i think. There is others CompatibilityTool availables ?

gasinvein commented 2 years ago

There are Proton, Proton-Exp and Proton-GE currently.

Thanks you very much. Are you aware of reason there is no Proton-Exp-BE yet ? it's seems very similar in managing of new version as Proton-Exp

Are you aware of reason there is no Proton-Exp-BE yet ?

Because, as you already guessed, this will require human work, which nobody has stepped up to do yet.

Note that since Flatpak 1.12, official Proton builds should work in Steam flatpak, so the usefulness of these community builds is decreasing.

Unfortually, i'm far from 1.12 ...

flatpak --version
Flatpak 1.2.5

https://packages.debian.org/buster/flatpak

I might want to dist-upgrade to bullseye but i did not plan it for 2021...

experimental-bleeding-edge seems to be updated even more frequently than experimental. Honestly, I doubt that I'll be able to keep the flatpak up-to-date, while I guess being outdated is not acceptable for something bleeding-edge.

Just to be clear, since our first few communication, it's was clear to me that bleeding-edge is undoable as experimental is allreaddy frequently updated.

@gasinvein This reminds me, any idea on when we can use 6.3-8 from the Flatpak build?

gasinvein commented 2 years ago

@VarLad Oh, I've completely forgot about it, sorry. We have 6.3-8 in flathub-beta repository. Don't mind giving it a try? If it works properly, I can land it into stable repo.
