Steam Client Crashing #1141

Open butilka123 opened 10 months ago

butilka123 commented 10 months ago

Hi there, when I start Steam it opens and starts loading. After it's done loading it opens the application, and it instantly closes again. Then It keeps opening and closing over the time.

My System Information: Operating System: Fedora Linux 38 KDE Plasma Version: 5.27.7 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.109.0 Qt Version: 5.15.10 Kernel Version: 6.4.11-200.fc38.x86_64 (64-bit) Graphics Platform: X11 Processors: 24 × AMD Ryzen 9 7900X 12-Core Processor Memory: 30,5 GiB of RAM Graphics Processor: AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT Manufacturer: ASUS

[alex@fedora ~]$ flatpak --version Flatpak 1.15.4 [alex@fedora ~]$ flatpak --gl-drivers default host

I have Steam from Discover and I added Flatpak.

I don't know what else to provide or where to go. Furthermore, I would really appreciate some help.

Thanks in advance.

I have the same issue when clicking on the desktop app. It only works when I run from the cli, or when i right click the app and click on anything except New Window...

I'm seeing this issue as well on Fedora Silverblue 38. The initial "Waiting for network" followed by "Logging in" then nothing appears. It loops trying to launch the main window indefinitely.

Launching it in any way other than through clicking the icon seems to work. This includes:

Flatpak version: 1.15.4 Steam (flatpak) version: 1.0.0.78

greysonofusa commented 10 months ago

running the terminal command:

run com.vavlesoftware.Steam --user seems to get things going for me. Sometimes it fails sometimes it work.

My OS is telling me that this one is always crashing

rodislav commented 9 months ago

My steam started crashing since updating the client in order to make CS2 work, which happened yesterday.

Both flatpak and .deb installer are showing the same behavior:

  1. install the steam app from scratch.
  2. install CS2.
  3. all works.
  4. stop steam client.
  5. stops working.
  6. delete the client and games manually.
  7. install the steam client and the games again.
  8. works fine till the closing of the steam client.

After re-installing drivers and restarting the PC, I've run steam from command line

For what it's worth, I can't reproduce any of these issues in Fedora 38.

dennis1248 commented 8 months ago

I am experiencing the same issue under Arch.

When launching Steam via the .desktop file the login GUI appears and closes almost instantly, this bug only occurs on subsequent runs of the client and not first launch.

In the background I can see it repeatedly spin up and kill a large amount of SteamWebHelper processes.

When launching it via the terminal the client launches fine, even if the client is released from the terminal it continues to run fine.

Both the native and flatpak versions of the client are affected.

I only started to experience this bug after a reinstall of my OS a few days ago.

Removing PrefersNonDefaultGPU from the .desktop solves this issue.

I am running a AMD 6900 XT and a 7950X3D with I-GPU. The AMD 6900 XT is the default accelerator.

I suspect having switcheroo-control running could be the thing causing this issue, this requires more testing.

greysonofusa commented 8 months ago

I think I found the root of this issue. You have NVIDIA drivers installed on the system and the hardware is no longer present. Integrated graphics can't switch on for certain applications like steam. Uninstall your Nvidia drivers and load the stock kernel that comes with your system or if that doesn't fix it load a third party kernel like liquorix.
