You probably need to include more infos, like a detailed log, as this might be specific to where you are in the world
I am in General Santos Philippines, on a 200MB fiber connection . Here is the syslog portion that I think relates to the attempts yesterday. If you need different logs, please be more specific;

I guess you were trying to install, so running that with a -vv
is probably helpful
and your flatpak version
All that didn't update for the last week, updated thirty minutes ago. So though I ran the -vv it really did provide anything useful.
Flatpak 1.14.4
ID Branch Op Remote Download
You know, even when it is updating, it takes far too slow. When I run apt, I get all I need in less than two or three minutes. Flatpak takes hours.
You should update to the latest version, as that might already solve this
My distro is Debian. Do you any upgrade for my distro from this page? https://www.flatpak.org/setup/
I have the most current available via Debian as far as I know.
Ask debian to update to https://github.com/flatpak/flatpak/releases/tag/1.14.5

likely they WONTFIX. Debian stable is kinda frozen in time.
Exactly right. IF Flatpak wants Debian users to upgrade it needs to provide its own way of doing that... Just as Flathub allows for software that it not in the Debian repository or less current ones to be used, it needs to do the same for itself. This is a problem, but in all honestly, I doubt the newer version will fix the speed of update problem.

The new version should kill too slow downloads, as you can read in the patch notes...
/* Abort the download if it’s slower than 10KB/sec for 60 seconds. An example
* compressed summary file is 1.5MB in size, so anything slower than this rate
* will mean it takes over 2.5 minutes to download just the summary file. */
So it will at least change things. It's very hard to analyze bugs, if people are running old versions with potentially fixed issues. That's why most projects expect you to also test with the latest version.
Sorry but I don't have the requisite skill set to compile the 1.14.5 build as the install-sh require added values and autogen.sh also isn't right. README.md is of no help.
So, no.

You're right, the lack of support is reprehensible. How dare they not bail you out from your distro's shortcomings. Here's the way to get the package updated. https://wiki.debian.org/DebianTesting
Is this still an issue? If it's timing out it's likely an issue with your network or Flathub's CDN provider Fastly in your region.
bbhtt, It's sort of hit and miss. Sometimes it's really fast, other times it dribbles in at maybe 12kb/sec for gigabytes worth of updates. It hasn't timed out completely lately. I'm in the Philippines, so, OK, maybe that's an issue, but if there was a better answer than Flatpak I would use it. Just about every time the paks come with warnings such as:
Info: runtime org.gnome.Platform branch 44 is end-of-life, with reason: The GNOME 44 runtime is no longer supported as of March 20, 2024. Please ask your application developer to migrate to a supported platform.
That's not a warning, that's an info, as it says at the start
OK, but I get warnings at other times, and that misses the main point of my answer... It's not fast too much of the time.
The speed issue can be many problems, including your government, telcos, poor connectivity in general, etc. The abundance of details (or lack thereof) make it very very difficult to even begin.
hfiguiere, True but I have a good FTTH connection, an though there are times my Telco/ISP has problems, I am in fact referencing when all is good and apt upgrades are fast (and this is pretty much all the time) , yet Flatpak is slow.
Honestly, Flathub is the most infuriating thing on my Linux PC.
Just look at this screenshot, Bro 30KB where are Flathub servers? On the moon??
Some things update, and others do not. This has been getting over over the last week. Is Flatpak dying?
