Helvetica has a bitmap font provided by xorg-fonts. Low DPI versions of bitmap fonts will look weird.
I've disabled bitmap fonts in my system, by symlinking /usr/share/fontconfig/conf.avail/70-no-bitmaps.conf to /etc/fonts/conf.d/70-no-bitmaps.conf and reconfiguring the font-cache, but this Flatpak seems to use them, so I had to manually copy over my /etc/fonts/conf.d to config/fonts/conf.d in the Flatpak to fix it.
