Korean characters are broken on the official .tar.bz2 binary, but display flawlessly on the Flathub version. Why/How? #44

My original bug report on the official Anki forums, with a fuller description and screenshots: https://forums.ankiweb.net/t/issue-showing-korean-characters/8022

According to the dev, Flathub Anki is built from the official Anki .tar.bz2 binary, so there shouldn't be any differences between the two.

But for some reason, Flathub Anki shows Korean characters flawlessly, whereas they are a jumbled mess in the official .tar.bz2 version.

We were hoping to find out why/how.

Thank you.

My guess is that it probably occurs due to the something in the configuration of your desktop environment. I believe Anki running in flatpak should use your system font through xdg-desktop-portal, and Anki without the sandbox should just use your system font directly. I am not exactly sure why the two would differ on your system, and would need specifics on your environment to troubleshoot.

However, as this is not a direct issue with the flatpak (we are not doing anything special with fonts), I am closing this for now.
