The Freedesktop 19.08 runtime doesn't build the ALSA 'plughw' audio device, leading to problems. Upstream issue: https://gitlab.com/freedesktop-sdk/freedesktop-sdk/-/issues/1082
It will be fixed in the 20.08 release, which presumably is soon to be released.
