Hmmm, strange. I launched Blender via the command line with flatpak run org.blender.Blender
. I did that to collect some verbose logs. But for whatever reason the sound does work now. When launching it from GNOME Shell, the sound also works. Weird.

I'm using Fedora 34 and I've installed Blender via Flatpak. For some reason I don't have sound in the Video Editing workspace, when playing the preview in the sequencer. The imported media for sure has audio, my system is configured correctly to generate sound and other Flatpak applications have no problems generating sound either (e.g. Jitsi).
Now I have a guess it's because of Pipewire. But first I would like to confirm that other people also experience this. I'm just using the default setup, I haven't changed any settings. I just launch Blender, open the Video Editing workspace, import media, and play it. Then there is no sound.
