6 years ago I blew away Thunderbird's config and my personal data, so this is from a pristine installation of Thunderbird 60. It just plain out crashes trying to add an account. I suppose I will be stuck using web mail for a while.

Add-ons in Thunderbird (version 52.9.1) were all removed except for Messaging Menu and Unity Launcher integration. It was unable to be removed so it was disabled.

6 years ago I'm running latest Fedora 28 w/ Flatpak 0.99.3 and T60 also crashes for me after creating an account. Nuking .thunderbird and .var/app/org.mozilla.Thunderbird directories and recreating an account does not resolve the issue. Unfortunately no crash dump is available but abrtd reports the crash.

6 years ago I have the same issue as reported in the original poster. I used my existing profile with the Thunderbird flatpak (60.0) on Ubuntu 18.04.1, and a crash occurs. When I clean the profile (remove the .thunderbird folder), it starts up normally. When I manually re-add all of my accounts and extensions, it crashes again on startup. I can't figure out if it is an extension causing the crash or the accounts (I have to assume it is the accounts because all of the extensions are from the Thunderbird store). Here is the verbose output of flatpak:

I have the following extensions/Add-ons installed: gContactSync, Identity Chooser, Lightning (by default), Provider for Google Calendar, Quicktext I have also synced contacts using gContactSync, and 2 Google accounts with Provider for Google Calendar
As you might expect, the Thunderbird 60.0 version from thunderbird.net works fine with this profile. Unfortunately it doesn't look like a crash log is generated by the flatpak Thunderbird on startup. Any idea how to force it to produce some more verbose logging (than the above) within flatpak? I can tell those logs are normal for any version of Thunderbird, crash or not.

(gdb) I'm not an expert at running gdb under Linux, but this backtrace seems to be lacking something (like symbols). I assumed having the Thunderbird.Debug package would load the symbols automatically when using the --devel flag, but this doesn't shed any light on what is causing the Segmentation Fault. Gdb itself states it couldn't find the debug symbols. Also, I am running the above command with --safe-mode to disable extensions.
Any ideas on how to get some reasonable debug output?

6 years ago I also ran flatpak run --devel --command=sh --verbose org.mozilla.Thunderbird, then ran /app/bin/Thunderbird, added an account, and got it to coredump for me.

6 years ago @Erick555 I think it's either directly after account creation, and/or when a user tries to access their inbox. I too could copy my ~/.thunderbird file and have things work just fine on v60.

As I understand this is just to spot the problems right now ... another impression I had was that in my case it seems to have problems with the enigmail-addon that comes with the upstream tb-package and therefore is installed to /usr/share/mozilla/extensions/ (and symlinked into the users profile dir). "--safe-mode" didn't help much but maybe the flatpak version lacks permissions in a way to follow these symlinks? Just a guess, not more.

6 years ago @AdrianKoshka I think the stacktrace you posted isn't related to crash, just a noise. The real one was posted in https://github.com/flathub/org.mozilla.Thunderbird/issues/46#issuecomment-414291642 but those build didn't include debug symbols. Can you try checking this with your debug-enabled build? You will have to run it through gdb as in linked comment.
BTW: Perhaps options linked in https://github.com/flathub/org.mozilla.Thunderbird/issues/46#issuecomment-414310101 should be disabled by default to make debugging possible without re-compiling whole package.

Deleting it doesn't solve any issue, once you add an account, or try to access that account, TB crashes, this is a moot point.

Haven't tested installing/using enigmail in a while, at the moment there isn't a portal for GPG keys, so it wouldn't function anyway unless we included gpg and exposed the users keys directly (not something I want to do).

Crashes immediately on start up. Task manager shows the application starting up, then immediately dying. Running on Kubuntu 18.04.1 LTS 64 bit.
Workaround: Changed ~/.thunderbird/ and the ~/.var/app/org.mozilla.Thunderbird to.old, starts up correctly.
What expected: Incompatible extensions should gracefully be ignored.
