Right. That's why you have to follow the directions in the readme.

I understand. However, may I suggest consideration of a novice user¹s perspective. Your product is very nice for creating easily readable and maintainable source files. Now, someone like myself who wishes to use the product prepares to install it, but has no familiarity at all with the git command set or the git environment. For someone like that, the readme is, at best, obscure.
At the same time, on the same page there is an enticing download link. I think that veering off to a more familiar path is understandable.

I'm happy to take any suggestions on which parts of the instructions need further clarification. I tried to include the exact commands that need to be run in order to get the software to compile.
I¹ll give it a shot. First, a little background to set the stage.
One of my colleagues found the Mac version of MultiMarkdown and used it to replace a locally developed and less clean product used to produce web based documentation. The MultiMarkdown source was more readable and the product was simpler to use. For my particular use, I needed a Linux version. I tried obtaining it from Linux repositories, but the version I got was ancient (1.003 or something like that), so I searched for version 4 which was what the Mac installer produced.
I found this web site: https://github.com/fletcher/MultiMarkdown-4 The readme toward the bottom of the page included this section:
At any rate, I didn¹t know what git command to use. Fetch? Clone? Pull? No idea. I came across your web site (http://fletcherpenney.net/multimarkdown/install/) and followed the Linux link and found the instructions for the installation of version 3. This led me to produce the following set of commands.
I suspect that you and, perhaps, most of the users of your product would echo the words of my favorite cartoon character, Mr. Obvious Man and say ³Well Duh!². In this case, I was a novice and hope my comments may make the process easier for others who are in the same boat.
Thanks, Bill

The linux repo that you mention is not even MultiMarkdown. There was never a version 1.003, but there was some other software that used that number. This software was not created by me.
The websites you mention (this github page, and the MMD home page at fletcherpenney.net) are the official MultiMarkdown sites.
I can add the git clone command to the README.
Thanks for the feedback,

Ah! The actual package name in the repo is perl-Text-MultiMarkdown, version 1.000032. And I see that it purports to translate your MutiMarkdown input to HTML. The package was put together by someone named Steve Huff.
Glad to be of some help.

I just saw that the download links for precompiled binaries in the Installation and Usage sections on github.com/fletcher/MultiMarkdown-4
point to github.com/fletcher/peg-multimarkdown/downloads
. Is that correct?
Fixed. Thanks!
Sorry to bother you again, but the download links on fletcherpenney.net/multimarkdown/use/
also point to github.com/fletcher/peg-multimarkdown/downloads
:-)
And https://github.com/fletcher/qlmultimarkdown
no longer seems to be available.
Links should be updated now -- thanks.
QuickLook is here https://github.com/fletcher/MMD-QuickLook. Where did you find the other link?
Thanks! The link is on http://fletcherpenney.net/multimarkdown/use/ in the section MultiMarkdown and Finder “Quick Look”.
Thanks. Fixed.

The download link on the source page transfers a zip file which expands into a source tree in which the greg directory is empty. As a result, make fails. I found that getting the greg master separately and copying its content into the source tree fixed the problem.
