Currently, the only documentation I can find regarding tag filtering is included in docs.fluentd.org/v0.12/articles/config-file (applies to v1.0 as well) and is specific to the match directive.
Ideally the tag filter construct is described in a generic way (as its used for more than just the match directive) and referred to where appropriate. Either through a header section of the config-file documentation, or its own article in the documentation side-bar.
