Performance issues subsequent to installation of Apple Security Update 2007-007 1.0 via Software Update #251

After installing Apple Security Update 2007-007 1.0 via Software Update,
performance of my
sshfs-mounted filesystem seems slower, with quite frequent beachballs when
opening or saving
files.

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Install sshfs via MacPorts 1.5.0 as well as MacFusion 1.2 beta 3 (1.1.268)
2. Check open/save performance
3. Install Apple Security Update 2007-007 1.0 via Software Update
4. Recheck open/save performance.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
The following installed via MacPorts 1.5.0 on OS X 10.4.10:
  expat @2.0.1_0 (active)
  fusefs @0.4.0_0 (active)
  gettext @0.16.1_0 (active)
  glib2 @2.12.13_0 (active)
  libfuse @2.6.5_1 (active)
  libiconv @1.11_4+darwin_8 (active)
  pkgconfig @0.22_0 (active)
  sshfs @1.7_5 (active)

It may be worth pointing out that Safari 3 Beta Update 3.0.3 and AirPort
Extreme Update 2007-004 1.0 were also
installed by Software Update at the same time.

To begin with, I generally don't have the resources to test any other
"distribution" of MacFUSE other than the
one I distribute. I have not used MacFUSE and related software through either
MacPorts or MacFusion, so I
can't comment much there.

That said, "seems slower" and "check open/save performance" are vague
statements. How does one "check
open/save performance"? What *is* "open/save performance"? Slow--how slow?

I can't say what has changed in your environment, but MacFUSE should have
nothing to do with Safari 3 Beta
Update, AirPort Extreme Update, Apple Security Update etc. sshfs, which uses
the network, could of course be
affected if AirPort is flakey or intermittently slow. Lots of people have
reported intermittently slow wireless
issues in the last month or so, so that could be it. For comparison, you might
want to try sshfs with a wired
network and see if "open/save performance" is better. Alternatively, you could
try a variety of SFTP operations
through the sftp command and see if things are good.

Finally, it's more appropriate to use the macfuse-devel forum for such
discussions unless you have a specific
bug to report.
