settings button now dissapearing and no notifications after new update #160

IMPORTANT: PLEASE search the existing issues (including closed ones) for
something similar before filing a new one.

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1.start notifier.
2.no notifications (was set to specific device now on any still nothing)
3.use settings once, now no settings button there at all when icon clicked upon

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
a settings button
notifications

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
most recent update
magic 1.6

when you click on the icon in the toolbar it usually says settings, this is not 
there.
