An installer is a very important feature: maybe using autotools to generate
configure(s) and makefile(s) is the faster choice.

We decided to not use autotools for the moment. While porting part of the code 
under 
win32 systems, the autotools scripts were bigger and more complex than the 
hand-written 
ones.
