Will PsuedoTV be updated to work with the new version of Kodi 19.0?

fnord12 commented 3 years ago

I don't intend to move to 19 any time soon. I'm personally happy on 18 and i don't see any reason to upgrade. And unfortunately it's not easy to maintain a version for 18 and 19 because with 19 Kodi is moving to Python 3 so there's no backwards compatibility. I may eventually be forced to move to 19 and then i'll have to update my addons, but until then i'll stick with 18.

For what it's worth, it looks like Lunatix has done a complete rewrite of PseudeoTV Live for 19 and it seems to be going well: https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=346803

Technobob commented 3 years ago

Just wanted to say no rush I'm happy with 18 too

I stop by to see if there was updates for 19 right after I booted my Android box, it auto updated Kodi to 19 and converted the database rendering incompatible with 18, and disabled my skin and about half dozen add-ons 👎 So now I'm reinstalling everything again, I'm not a happy camper it takes nearly a day to scan my library, luckily this is a secondary system so my main HTPC is still running 18

For those looking at Lunatix PseudoTV Live it's a great add-on but its not the same in one key area it is now linear 👎 You can't choose anything in the EPG you want it has to be playing in the time line. That is the main feature that I love PsuedoTV for, if you're watching a 2 part show you can just open the EPG and find the next part without having to go to Kodi's library interface or if you see a better show or movie on next you can just select it.

Lunatixz commented 3 years ago

Hi, I was recently made aware of this post by a user... To clear things up @Technobob is incorrect. Users can play anything they'd like from the EPG.

Technobob commented 3 years ago

I could never select anything not on the timeline, I have tried it on Mac, Linux, Android and Windows in all cases it was the same.

I installed PseudoTV Live and let it auto configure the PVR client and auto tune the channels, and using Kodi's default skin to eliminate skin conflict. Here is video of what I'm saying, as you can see whenever I select something not in the timeline it will only play the timeline video and not what I selected

I haven't used it so i don't know if this is addressing the same issue but have you seen this thread in the Kodi forum?

https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=361336

It looks like it might be possible if you are in "Playlist mode" or via the right-click/context menu?

Lunatixz seems very responsive on both the Kodi forum and the PseudoTV reddit:

https://www.reddit.com/r/PseudoTV/

So you might try reaching out in one of those places since he's saying you should be able to do it.

I'm just curious if after two years you are still completely satisfied with remaining on Kodi v18?

Xeddius commented 1 year ago

Honestly, this is a better script, I've never been a fan of the "live" version at all, not to mention the large swaths of time where it just didn't work, or the installs were broken. This PseudoTV is significantly more stable and deserving of an update to Python3, and with Kodi 20 "Nexus" on the horizon, I think it'd be great if someone could update this. I'd be willing to put a bounty on it if anyone is willing/interested.

Sorry, all. 18 is still working fine for me and I don't have any plans to upgrade.

Hey fnord, I made a issue request but thought I can mention it here so it tags you. I've been having trouble figuring out how to change the channel bug logo placement for the script. Its set in 16:9 and I have a lot of content in 4:3 which I'd like to change to have the channel bug position be 4:3 instead. Maybe there's a way to do specific channels or based on the content (4:3 or 16:9). I was trying to find a way to change the position in xml files but haven't found a way yet.

If you know of a way in xml file settings or another way please reach out.

Best regards,

@fnord12 Is there no way to change the channel's logo to display at the video's aspect ratio? Tried changing the overlay.xml file countless times and i'm losing hope on this issue.

Hello,

Long time. Any chance you'll be taking on the move to newer Kodi releases? I only ask because I noticed a lot of useful addons/information providers like TVDB and the MovieDB are broken as they are no longer compatible with 18.9. Kind of rough scraping metadata when I want to add new shows or movies for PseudoTV.

All respect to the current development on PseudoTV Live by Lunatixz, but I prefer a lot of the features that this PseudoTV provides (Including Advanced Rules).

Thanks as always!

fnord12 commented 5 months ago

Hey gils001. No plans to move yet. For what it's worth, I'm using The TVDB scraper v3.2.8 and The Movie Database Python v1.3.1 and they both still work with 18. If that failed i'd probably start using a 3rd party scraper like Tiny Media Manager and then import into Kodi using the .nfo files it produces. I know that one day i'll have to upgrade everything but for me it's a lot - not just PseudoTv but Tag Manager, AutoSub, my Magic Search/Editor, and a highly customized skin. My experience with every Kodi release has been that it breaks more than it fixes, and i haven't really seen any new features in the new releases that i've been hoping for, so i prefer to stick with what works for me as long as possible.

Hi everyone, if you loved this addon for Kodi you'll love this. I personally have moved on from outdated Kodi, I'd been a user since the Alfa days when Kodi was called XBMC and ran on the original Xbox (wow! feeling old now). I found an Android app called QuasiTV, it runs much like PseudoTV. It's still a little rough around the edges but its stable and very usable, but it does require you to run a Jellyfin, Plex, or Emby server. It's not hard, if you can setup Kodi you can run one of these servers, and I know Jellyfin and Emby have Kodi addons. I recommend Jellyfin it's open source and does not rely on a 3rd party to access your content and that is for that reason and privacy reasons I will never use Plex or Emby

Now if you want a more flexible setup that works with hundreds of apps including Kodi, and it runs on all the PC OS's and in Docker. You want to set up an ErsatzTV IPTV server, it takes more work but its really worth it in the end. I'm running the server on my Mac and playing the channels using my Nvidia Shield running TiviMate IPTV app. It can get insane in all the customizing you can add to channels, and the way the channels are structured. I've lost it with 592 channels (large library) and it's still growing, thinking of building some decade channels. You can also access it if you setup your computer for remote connections. You can stream your channels anywhere in the world or share them with friends and family. If you still love Kodi you can use Kodi Simple IPTV addon, you'll use the same interface app that Lunatixz uses for PseudoTV Live if memory serves me right, it works really will.

this fork runs under kodi 21 but not very well. I was able to configure its version 2.5.2 to my needs. Very limited and tricky but still better than the new Live version. And the old... Hopefully someone with Python skills will fix it some day.
