Major Help! Fallout Mod Manger Problem! #60

Open ChizuNinju opened 7 years ago

ChizuNinju commented 7 years ago

I have had a lot of problems lately with FMM. It always gives me these errors and I CAN guarantee it's because my C drive is full. Problem is, whenever you install a mod and activate it it puts a temporary file into your C Drive. I had enough to activate NMC Texure which I did but I un-installed it and re-activated it. Problem is I can't re-activate it because it created dual files for when I activated NMC Textures before. I can easily fix this but I need to know where in you C Drive it puts these files so it doesn't take up all of my C Drive space and instead I can put it into a new Driver and be able to use the mod. I know I can clean my C drive but I can't clean it enough to download NMC and other big mods. Again, if there is a way to make it so it doesn't put the files in my C Drive and instead in a drive with for GB, that would be amazing. If fixing this has to do with going into the settings my FMM seems to crash and gives me this message whenever I try to go into Settings. https://gyazo.com/67afe7c786114a866d2397da9ebd08eb Thanks

H‎ello,I'm replying by email. Let's see how that works. I cant be much‎ help, but I do have a few comments. Modding games like this can easily take a huge amount of drive space. This is because each package is duplicated *at least* twice, even excluding temporary files. My own set-up uses a folder mirror, so that is another copy... and so forth. Bottome line is, if you are maxing out through temporary files, you need more drive space. Lots more.  Ample drive space is basic necessity for this hobby. I don't know if FoMM's archive and extraction function allows you to configure‎ it's temporary file location. But as far as I know, those files are temporary and will be flushed on re-boot. Really though, I think you need a D: drive ;)I'm also not sure what you mean by "dual files"...FoMM has a 'downloads' folder (or whatever it's called) for the archive, and it will extract contents > place in install folder. Un-installation should remove archive contents > replace overwritten data. That's the basic function of a Mod Manager. Is FoMM not 'cleaning up' properly? That's some basic information, cuz I'm a basic user. If FoMM is failing in its basic functioning, it will take a more savvy response to help you. ~bc From: ChizuNinjuSent: Tuesday, January 31, 2017 2:14 PMTo: foesmm/fommReply To: foesmm/fommCc: SubscribedSubject: [foesmm/fomm] Major Help! You just helped a lot but I still have a few questions. So you where saying how I should have a D Drive or at least a second drive. I actually do, it has 3 TB. Now the thing that I have no clue how to do is make it so that FMM stops taking GB away from my C Drive and instead, take i from my 3 TB drive. Now I am not sure what you mean by ''Folder Mirror'' but if it is working for you how can I do it? Basically, I have tons of space, but not in my C Drive, so how can I make it stop taking GB away from my C Drive. If that means doing a ''File Mirror'' or using another program like the default NMM I will do it. You know how to make these king of changes? (Even if it isn't using FMM) Thanks

It's just something I do so that I can use NMM to browse, and FoMM to install. It uses a little thing called "Sync Tool".Everything should be on the big drive, then: Downloads (archives), game install, and FoMM itself‎. Given that, FoMM shouldn't eat away at you C: space at all. Except during extraction/installation. Free space on c: before install and after install should be the same.  Are you losing space *other than* just during installation? ~mb From: ChizuNinjuSent: Tuesday, January 31, 2017 5:46 PMTo: foesmm/fommReply To: foesmm/fommCc: boycad; CommentSubject: Re: [foesmm/fomm] Major Help! When I install the mod, it says my disk is full so I just install it into my big driver. After, once I extract it into FMM, it's when I activate it it takes my space. It takes up at least 2-4 GB depending on the mod, but the GB on my C Drive always stay the same. I havn't tried the restart yet to see if it may change but for what I know when I activate on FMM it takes up a shit ton of my C Drive and stays that way. Also, I don't have anything saying Dowloads in my big drives. I have one in my C Drive but it's just empty (Deleted all) but after that none of the files that you say to go to are there. Thanks, again

If that means doing a ''File Mirror'' or using another program like the default NMM I will do it. You know how to make these king of changes? (Even if it isn't using FMM) Thanks

I actually have 3 drives, C Drive, one with 3 TB and another with 1 TB. The one with 1 TB has a downloads folder, but again, nothing inside of it.

Thanks, again

ho thanks, if that helps. You can forget about the "file mirror" comment. Are you losing space other than just during installation? ~mb From: ChizuNinjuSent: Tuesday, January 31, 2017 5:46 PMTo: foesmm/fommReply To: foesmm/fommCc: boycad; CommentSubject: Re: [foesmm/fomm] Major Help! Oh dear something does not seem right.  It's hard to tell what it is, though.·one doesn't 'extract to fomm'.  The archive is going placed intact, as downloaded, in the relevant fomm-connected folder.  Fomm performs the extraction, creating a .fomod file if I recall, which is then 'activated'.·I'm not sure exactly what the folder names are right now, because I'm using MO these days, but the relevant folder referred to above is within the Fomm install directory. It shouldn't be empty.  It should be dangerously cluttered.· Again, I forget exactly which buttons lead to which operations...but I think it's something like this: "create fomod from archive" > navigate to archive and select > .fomod is created and mod is now listed in 'left pane' of Fomm > check the box, or is it right click & "install" to activate mod and/or run installer.  How am I doing?· It sounds like you might not have Fomm installed correctly, or aren't using it in a way that works.  The basic configuration of the game dir, the stuff-downloaded -from-Nexus folder, and the Fomm directory is actually pretty finicky.I'm probably not helping you very much with your original problem, which was disk-out-of-space errors.  It sounds familiar, but it's been over a year since I last used Fomm. It's difficult to help out with the basics, because there are so many of them that we have long since taken for granted.-bcFrom: "ChizuNinju" notifications@github.comTo: "foesmm/fomm" fomm@noreply.github.comCC: "boycad" terukuni.maru@gmail.com, "Comment" comment@noreply.github.comSent: 31 January, 2017 7:10 PMSubject: Re: [foesmm/fomm] Major Help! Thanks, again

ho thanks, if that helps. You can forget about the "file mirror" comment. Are you losing space other than just during installation? ~mb From: ChizuNinjuSent: Tuesday, January 31, 2017 5:46 PMTo: foesmm/fommReply To: foesmm/fommCc: boycad; CommentSubject: Re: [foesmm/fomm] Major Help! how I should have a D Drive or at least a second drive.

Oh dear something does not seem right. It's hard to tell what it is, though.·one doesn't 'extract to fomm'. The archive is going placed intact, as downloaded, in the relevant fomm-connected folder. If fixing this has to do with going into the settings my FMM seems to crash and gives me this message whenever I try to go into Settings. https://gyazo.com/67afe7c786114a866d2397da9ebd08eb Thanks

Hi! So after I sent those pictures I activated all the Texture mods (NMC) and it worked! I don't know what I did but from what I can see the C Drive is the same and the mods are activated, working and have no problems! Thank you for all your support and you may think you didn't do much but honestly, without you, I don't think this would have happened. If I have anymore problems I hope I can count on you! Thanks a lot!

ho thanks, if that helps. You can forget about the "file mirror" comment. It's just something I do so that I can use NMM to browse, and FoMM to install. Given that, FoMM shouldn't eat away at you C: space at all. Except during extraction/installation. Free space on c: before install and after install should be the same. Well that's good.  I vaguely remember some difficulty with very large .fomod installs.  But I can't remember where or with which tool. In fact, I sort of remember using Fomm because it could handle large texture mods.Anyways, Fomm is great, and it's has a very 'manual' way of working.  But more complicated builds and merges test its limits.  I'm glad it's working for you.Tt,-bcFrom: "ChizuNinju" notifications@github.comTo: "foesmm/fomm" fomm@noreply.github.comCC: "boycad" terukuni.maru@gmail.com, "Comment" comment@noreply.github.comSent: 1 February, 2017 3:08 PMSubject: Re: [foesmm/fomm] Major Help! I don't know what I did but from what I can see the C Drive is the same and the mods are activated, working and have no problems!
