dashboards - how to create one #101

live site logged on as gilesgibson

Tried creating a dashboard and failed. Created the one - Lambeth anti-social behaviour. Created the name and some text. Failed to figure out how to add vis and where to put them. Any chance of a guide/help text or similar?

I'm assigning @pmackay as I don't actually know how he plans to implement this in Drupal yet, so can't write any Guide pages until then. @pmackay Should we review once you've got a clear picture of how it will work?

I haven't done anything with your video yet, except suggest it to Giles who thought it was a good idea.

step 4 - describe where people can see the name of the layout "brown" or the other ones. `Apart from the URL changing I couldn't find out how to find "brown".

I got this display at stage 6:

I think I got one to work, vis not being built though. Maybe the vis I chose was a broken on to start with. WIll explore more.

Overall it is a fix, not ideal but at least something could be built by someone who wants to persevere. Would be interesting to know what steps of the process could be easily improved/bypassed etc. if any.

Is the overall format OK? What about the style? Was it clear? (apart from the issue with Step 4 which is fair enough – I take your point about "Brown") and the point about the interface which we can't do much about until we find a new theme that'll work because Bootstrap is apparently too buggy You have to be careful to choose visualisations which are working on the site so they render on the dashboard – plus you have to wait a long time for them to all render together on the same screen. Yes, would be good to get some general feedback.

Step 4 - @djwesto is it best not to mention the name of one of the layouts, given that Panopoly doesnt show the names?

Step 6 - I raised #127 for this.

@GilesGibson did you create http://live-communitydata.gotpantheon.com/dashboards/your-dashboard-title-should-go-here? I can see it and all the viz render. However it seems you have to reload the page after editing the dashboard content.

Also @GilesGibson it would be great to know if you think this approach is useful if the user interface could be improved to make it more generally user friendly, or whether something radically different is needed?

I've now removed the reference to the "Brown" layout template.
