new site

It would be good if somehow we could register out bit.ly (or equivalent) account with the twitter icon so that the autogenerated tweets that it creates uses the shortcuts to the event page rather than waste most of the tweeet with the URL.

I can see how this is a problem – I'd forgotten to introduce this idea in the past as it's something we looked at doing at IPPF years ago.

At the time I think we explored the idea of setting up our own branded URL shortening service rather than going to bit.ly or similar. Not sure if you can do that now but the Shorten project might be worth a look, @pmackay https://www.drupal.org/project/shorten.

@GilesGibson this is probably one of the features we'd like you to submit to the OpenLocal Feature Requests list now. Please would you also do us a favour and have a think about some of the features you'd like such URL shortening service to offer you. We need to be able to judge which one would be most appropriate for your needs. Some features to consider:

@pmackay if we did want to roll our own, then it seems there's at least https://www.drupal.org/project/shurly and https://www.drupal.org/project/shorturl to choose from.
