"register your interest" - capture peoples details plus areas of interest. Could be when they create their profile.

I'd have thought you'd want to make this optional or you might put some people off.

@GilesGibson What's your plan for how to encourage your existing user base to register their interest? Are you going to email them all?

This form could be a new section on a user's profile here: /user/1/edit/ol_personal_info and you could then post out a link encouraging everyone to go in and tick which topics they're interested in.

Please can we agree what these "Areas of interest" look like as well? Are they the same as:

Arts & Crafts
Charities & Appeals
Children & Families
Crime & Policing
Education & Schools
Environment & Nature
Fayres
Food & Drink
Government & Politics
Health
History
Local amenities
Local economy
Markets & Festivals
Meeting
Music, Film, Dance
Parks & Gardens
Pets & Animal care
Religion
Travel & Transport
Volunteering & Community
Wellbeing & Sport

Or is this about another list of items?

if we could have common threads of category running through it would help. We could add in Neighbourhood Plan as a category as well. I suspect CPN will want a whole host of user specific interests though.

OK, cheers @GilesGibson Then we need Francis on GitHub and Google Docs in order to kick-start this conversation.

May I suggest "Planning" as a more general category? That allows Planning to happen in all sorts of places but we'll still have Neighbourhood Planning happening in your group.
