Simple way to contact the author of content #39

Open GilesGibson opened 9 years ago

It would be really useful if it was possible to click on the author of content and send them an email directly. If they have decided not to use the "contact organiser by email" field then as a site admin person it would help to be able to click on author and contact them. Also true for news items and organisations.

I would use it to ask them to add a photo when they forget, or query something about the content. At the moment I have to cut and paste their login name into the "people" tab and do a search then use the contact button. slow and a pain.

Surely you can click on their page and then the Contact tab, to get to a form you can use to email them?

Do you get many people who dont allow contact by email?

Thoughts @GilesGibson ?

image Hi @GilesGibson. If you're not logged into the site, you can't click on a user's name in order to then get through to their user profile.

However, I think that behaviour partly makes sense because users won't be able to do anything once they reached a users' page anyway.

However, @pmackay and I think you could make a case for letting anyone access another user's profile, even if they're not logged in. In which case, we could just make that link live for anyone.

Paul's going to try looking at the site permissions to see if we could set it up so that anyone can click through to a users' profile from a piece of content they've authored.

Perhaps it would be good to make this metadata available in a more consistent location too.

I take it you'd be happy to click on their user name and then on their "Contact" tab to send a site email?

Or were you actually wanting a "Contact the author" button under their name to take you directly to their Contact page?

It is when I am reviewing a news item or event, just need to click on the author and send them a comment i.e. no picture, or wrong date or not appropriate material. Current setup doesn't allow that in a simple way, author is not hyperlinked or just not mentioned.

@gilesgibson. Which page are you looking at mate? I see we've stopped adding screen grabs or URLs to issues again.

GilesGibson commented 9 years ago

Apologies, been bit hectic. Screengrab is here:

This is hen I am checking news content and would like to click on the author and send them an email.

This is when an event has been edited (in draft) and it would be good to contact the author without having to go back to the previous draft and click on the author name there.

The organisation screen too - again, a simple way of contacting the author.

I can see where the confusion arose. This is clearly a problem when you're logged in as admin but this is the Vassall and Coldharbour issue queue :grinning:

@pmackay where should @GilesGibson be reporting issues like this now? It's kind of an issue for both sites. What would you prefer we do?

pmackay commented 9 years ago

Creating lots of duplicate issues is not useful. @GilesGibson if this works better on Vassall, let's close here and aim to roll out to HH later?
