The application compiled properly with Build from PhoneGap. The apk works but the volume buttons don't (they increase and decrease volume as usual).

Thanks @steve111MV It appears you need cordova to be loaded before getting any event handler. See this toy project: https://github.com/phonegap/phonegap-start/tree/master/www
