Chat display sometimes broken

It appears that occasionally the chat window in the client swallows chat messages or garbles the formatting of the text. It seems only some and not all clients are affected. This bug seems not reproduceable, still has to be examined further.

Suspicious causes could be:

missing escaping of text (unhandled characters interfere with URL parameters of the text protocol)
server-side and/or client-side handling is faulty
"screaming" in the chat by player (initiated with '!')
pasting UTF-8 characters into the chat input field
text in input field too long, there seems no limitation in length

This images shows all text underlined after someone posted a long text into the chat input field. The text responsible is probably "VNC Server 5.0.4" ...

haven't noticed this yet in v3 beta, but that doesn't mean it won't rear up & bite us again ... wait & see ...
