Feature: focus input of search box #1269

When the user opens the search box, the odds are that they want to search for text. Right now, the box opens with nothing focused. It would be convenient if the text input field were automatically focused. Then you could immediately start typing without having to manually select the field.

Any hope that this could be addressed? Naively it seems like it should be straightforward.
