@hmullerlandau , a question on your comments:

Hofhansl doesn’t cover belowground allocation. Moser et al. 2011 (citation that was intended to go there) is the only study I'm aware of showing increasing allocation to roots with decreasing temperature across a tropical elevation gradient. Are you aware of more?
