try to make table play nice with the template #20

The spacing after the text in the first row is now perfect, but I suggest to fix that after Copernicus gives a general :+1: for the LaTeX code.

@nuest, this change raises another question/ potential improvement to your template:

The table reference that you inserted "(Table \@ref(table_variables))" fails to give a number, which I assume is related to this error:

I don't know offhand how to fix this, and suggest that it would be helpful to include the auto numbering system in your template.
