exclude NEP, NEE, GPP, Reco.... really? #26

From Valentyna: " I am sorry, we erroneously thought that NEE and NEP were without soil, where they actually include all. We do almost nothing with such values, so it is better to avoid their input."

Yet, these do seem to correspond to ΔC in equation 2.3, so I need to verify this. For now I will exclude, but that could easily be turned on and sent later.

If these remain excluded, I need to remove them from the C variables mapping diagram

Resolved: we will not include these.

From Valentyna:

IPCC methodology estimates C stock changes by C pool, so carbon stock changes in soils need to be accounted separately. If the soil is included elsewhere, the accounting will not reflect carbon stock changes in this particular pool. Hope, this clarifies.

I 've had a small talk with Sandro as a continuetion of our email exchange and he also added that measurements of NEE are representative of specific conditions of a small area and subject to large annual and interannual variability, national greenhouse gas inventories are aimed at reporting c stock changes by C pools as aggregated at national total. Estimating an annual C stock change as the difference between NEE and C stock changes estimated for some C pools with other data in other sites brings a lot of uncertainty and it is not seen as a good practice by IPCC. Please note that NEE itself is not a good estimate for GHG emissions and removals since it does not account for transfer of biomass (harvesting) outside of the system.

I have removed these from the mapping diagram.
