6 years ago In my opinion, no.
If people want credit as their real name, they should provide their real name. If they want credit as their github name, that's fine too. And in many cases where people don't want credit, all we can do it credit the project, since github committers are not the same as project contributors, and project contributors are not the same as github committers.
This came up in a FORCE2017 session - is it important that we are able to extract/check for real names of people, rather than going on github etc. handles.
