Nothing works anymore after upgrading to 61.2.1 #5666

Summary

After upgrading the VSCode extension pack to 61.2.1 yesterday, nothing works anymore. No SFDX commands work at all anymore, none of them activate. When trying to run any commands, VSCode says "Activating extensions..." for a few seconds and then does nothing. Downgrading the installation to a previous version does not fix the issue either. Commands appear in the command palette, but no SF options appear in the status bar, and commands do not actually do anything.

Steps To Reproduce:

Install Salesforce Extension Pack v61.2.1

Expected result

Things work.

Actual result

Things don't work.
