Longevity: Fasting regimens based on biomarker state changes rather than time #23

Bounties for Foresight Technical Groups

Each of these will run for 6 weeks, the objective is to stimulate conversation and get people thinking about interesting and relevant future science. Submissions will be in the form of project proposals for solving these issues, and several winners will be chosen for each category. A short overview on the problem, a description of a solution, and your plan to implement it are required in the submission.

When people are told to fast, they are given a certain timeframe usually measured in days. But these times are likely different for different people – how might we develop a fasting regimen based on biomarkers instead?

Developing a fasting regimen based on biomarkers is quite hard. Not due to a lack of biomarkers, of which there are multiple, but because not every person fasts for the same reasons. Some people fast for weight loss, blood pressure management, improving health, etc. Luckily most of these are quite related and might be accesses individually when looking at a panel of biomarkers.

Some relatively easy to access biomarkers which are known to decrease during water fasting include:
