Intelligent Cooperation: Sustainable communities using NFT's #25

Bounties for Foresight Technical Groups

Each of these will run for 6 weeks, the objective is to stimulate conversation and get people thinking about interesting and relevant future science. Submissions will be in the form of project proposals for solving these issues, and several winners will be chosen for each category. A short overview on the problem, a description of a solution, and your plan to implement it are required in the submission.

Taking DAO's to the next level via designing better participation mechanisms

Many high-profile uses of NFTs have involved simple minting and speculation. But NFTs are smart-contract-native and highly programmable, and can be used to access a world of utility. Can we compose NFTs with funding designs to move beyond the one-off token sale, and build long-term communities around projects/creators?

Combining this with the DAO Bounty. Because DAOs may be humanities greatest idea meritocracy for future democracy in the digital era, I'll focus on how NFTs can be used to catalyze utility within DAOs for participation, governance and community building of inclusion and diversity.

My core belief and assumption is that we have yet to make dent in the possibilities of ERC-721, ERC-1155. Interviewing the most intelligent/thoughtful people in the world who understand this better than me will be my action plan. 4) ify01 has started work.

I will give you a quick update about what I've been working on, my progress and ideas so far. 6) thenathanvdh has started work.

There is a significant need for better NFT utility. We've only scratched the surface in terms of what can be done to incentivize someone to purchase an NFT and keep it for non-speculative reasons. While projects that allow NFT-gating discords servers or telegram chats already exist, I believe that the longest-lasting communities around NFT projects will be created by adding positive feedback loop mechanisms for good actions.

Inspired by the Optimism airdrop mechanism that rewarded governance voters, multisig transaction signers, or gitcoin donors, we need to create a way to reward good actions taken by an NFT community member. Rewarding good behavior, such as participating in governance, community calls, and onboarding community member is the key to empowering NFT communities.

These rewards could take the shape of boosted voting power, tokens associated with NFTs, or in the case of composable NFTs adding certain perks to it. For example, the CityDAO community could reward good participants with certain privileges that are associated with the nft holder, and not the nft itself. Differentiating the NFT holder and the community member are key to moving beyond the wild speculation that currently hampers long-lasting community development. 7) marcusboyds has started work.
