Can't open xml files (by default) #1

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Try clicking an xml file (that's local), Android won't give an option to
open with Jota Text Editor.
2. I tried clearing the default launch settings for the "Browser" (in
Settings/Applications/Manage Applications) which currently opens the xml file
by default.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Once the default launch setting for Browser has been cleared, I should see a
list of available applications that can handle the xml file (when chicking on
the xml file). This list SHOULD include Jota, but it does not. The available
applications list (to launch the xml file) are Browser and Dolphin Browser HD.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1
Model: GT-P7510
Android version: 3.1
Jota version: 2.01 (51)

Please provide any additional information below.

Hi,
>>1. Try clicking an xml file (that's local),
What application dis you use?

ES explorer choices text applications to open *.xml files.

I'm using:
Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1
Model: GT-P7510
Android version: 3.1
Jota version: 2.01 (51)

When I try clicking on a local XML file... I'm clicking on it from within the
"My Files" folder on the Android OS. That's my problem, clicking on the XML
file doesn't give me the option to open the XML file with the Jota Text Editor.
Android will only open the XML with the "Browser" application. Which, displays
only the strings within the XML nodes, not the XML itself. Not to mention, you
can't edit the file with the "Browser".

The only way I can open/edit an xml file is by running Jota and going to the
Menu/File/Open menu item and then locate the file in the "sdcard" folder (which
is the same folder as the "My Files" folder). This is slow and annoying... I'd
much rather be able to simply click the text or XML file directly from within
the My Files folder (i.e. from within the Android File Explorer).

If this was a Windows OS (an not Android), I'd say that the MIME-TYPE for XML
files are not registered to use the Jota application.

Does this help clarify?

If the file was send as text/xml, Jota can open it.
If your file manager opens by browser, your file manager didn't associated
*.xml with text/xml.

Again, I recommned to use ES explorer.
