There is a portability issue under NetBSD for the :[#] variable transformation of make. We should add a test case to ensure that this operation behaves as expected.

We reported the problem to NetBSD. The version of BSD Make currently found in PKGSRC (bmake-20140314) has the same problem.

This should be resolved by upgrading to a newer version of BSD Make.
