[Feature Request] Close tabs between 2 browsing seasons #609

Open soymadip opened 1 year ago

soymadip commented 1 year ago

There is an option 'delete browsing data on quit' that erases opened tabs, browsing data, cookies etc on pressing 'quit' button from toolbar.

But from iceraven's privacy POV it will be better if instead of pressing 'quit' button, browser automatically deletes them after closing browser.

My suggestion is also know as 'clear browsing data between two seasons' or 'close tabs on exit' etc....

Already implemented. See: Settings - Delete browsing data on quit. You do not need to press the quit button!

For more options install CAD addon (e. g. to delete cookies regularily)

Then it's not working for meor there is a problem if you select only tabs😅

I just selected tabs but it doesn't closes tabs automaticallyc after closing browser. next time i open browser, previous session's tabs are still there.....

Clearing browsing data usually means deleting cookies, clearing cache and removing history.

As I understand now, you specifically mean the closing tabs feature.

I can confirm that closing tabs on application exit does not work as expected, at least when using a gesture from androids task manager.

Obviously an "application on exit" api is not implemented, or not working.

This is not a feature request, but a bug !

Well in firefox, that is under the 'delwte browsing data on quit' option, so i thought I should include in that option in issue too

Well i did write the post heading as [Feature request]😅

Should I open a seperate issue with '[Feature request] close tabs on exit' heading?

Sorry, I was wrong, as I see now.

Surprisingly it is clearly said: Data is cleared only on button press. I could verify the behaviour with cookies.

It seems, using the swipe gesture in Android's recent apps is comparable to killing apps with a task manager. Then there is almost no chance to detect if the forced exit was caused by an unecpected crash, or otherwise by user-intendended forced application terminaion (e. g. using the recent apps manager).

But using swipe gestures is common sense to quit apps on Android. There definately needs to be a way to detect and manage this kind of app termination!

Thus you, @soymadip are completely right with your 'feature request'. Shame on me, it is not a bug!

It needs to be fixed, either by Android developers or - if possible- by the Iceraven crew.

Well, i don't have any coding knowledge but i guess there is because most of the chromium based browsers have this 'close tabs between 2 browsing seasons' options....

As example in kiwi browser:- Screenshot_2023-05-07-08-55-53-32_4d38fce200f96aeac5e860e739312e76.jpg

Oh, yeah.

As of now, we need to manually press the "quit" button for closing all tabs..

So is this just not gonna ever get addded? This is all i want. I'd looked into all the popular forks and not one of them have this simple feature "Close Tabs: Immediately", not after one day/week/month. I've requested and seen so many other people request it from the offical mozilla site...it's always just ignored. So many other browsers do this, so why can't firefox? I cannot be expected to open the side menu, scroll down then press "exit". Or manually close the tabs every time i want to leave the browser. Those are pointless annoyances. Extra work/steps for literally no reason. I just want to swipe the app away like every other one then there's a clean slate next time i open it
