At this point it would be most appropriate to build a test suite for the shell. It seems that Travis CI supports both Linux and a (apparently limited version of) OS X. Here you can find more info.
I expect a significant amount of work, especially for OS X, since either MacPorts and other prerequisites would need to be installed, or completely switch to Homebrew.
