The JuliaCon organizing team have a policy of providing high quality live-streaming of talks. There are several reasons why they consider this important.

Combined with the use of social media forums (i.e. Slack and Twitter), remote viewers can participate to some degree in the conference, increasing their engagement in the community.

Good quality presentations can be relayed on social media accounts over the course of the year, i.e. on Twitter and LinkedIn. Regular postings on LinkedIn increase the exposure to potential sponsors, with the quality of the presentations are good for brand management.

Exposure to online-material would boost the chances of new users adopting Julia. However, direct comparisons in this regards are not useful because of different stages of development of both communities.

The key quality issues arise from 1. Sound Quality 2. The ability to read the slides from presentations. If these can not be assured, it is not worth investing in a live-stream at all.
