Where do we send money? #173

Could use please add a donation link to the wiki or perhaps a tab on the plugin preferences dialog?

I've grown so accustomed to this plugin, there is simply no way I'd using Rhythmbox without it. I don't bother with the out-of-the-box music library browser at all anymore. So please fix this bug right away so we can show our apprecation.

Heh, very much appreciate your support hdave :] It might be a good idea, but idk what would we use the donations for :F we don't have any infraestructure to support as far as I know. We should wait to hear about this from @fossfreedom, this is his project after all :3

Anyway on a side note, github is integrated with (Flattr)[http://flattr.com/], so as a last alternative you can flattr a particular dev through it :] I've found it to be a nice tool to show appreciation to projects and pages (or their creators) I'm fond of.

@asermax

never really thought about this in-terms of plugin development.

So - I presume you have a flattr account? I dont see any "buttons" or stuff on your repos. How does it work?

asermax commented 11 years ago

There are some sites that have an explicit Flattr button, but thats not the case for github d: You have to install the Flattr add-on/extension for your specific browser for the button to appear somewhere; in chrome for example, it appears on the omnibox whenever you are on a page with flattrable content.

Btw, aparently you can flattr a repository, I guess it's equivalent to flattring it's owner...

fossfreedom commented 11 years ago

hmm ... ever thought of adding this "button" to the README markdown file?

asermax commented 11 years ago

Seems interesting, makes it a lot easier :3

fossfreedom commented 11 years ago

I'm happy to add a flattr button ... can you do so similarly through your account?

asermax commented 11 years ago

Yes, I guess. This button is pointing to my github account (supposedly xD): Flattr Button

[![Flattr Button](http://api.flattr.com/button/button-compact-static-100x17.png "Flattr This!")](https://flattr.com/thing/9345f3f0142a83b01bb3a4503cabcca8 "asermax")

Are you planning into adding the buttons on the README?

fossfreedom commented 11 years ago

Yes - makes sense to do this.

I was looking at Flattr - I presume you did "Add to flattr" and used the profile similar to "https://flattr.com/profile/fossfreedom" ? This threw an error message at me saying already registered with this URL "https://flattr.com/thing/1231542" - that is my Flattr URL?

EDIT - your number at the end of the URL is much larger than mine - not sure. I've thrown a question on the "get satisfaction" part of the Flattr website to get clarification (hopefully).

EDIT2 - I used the public profile instead and this then added a link in "My Things"

i.e.

[![Flattr Button](http://api.flattr.com/button/button-compact-static-100x17.png "Flattr This!")](https://flattr.com/thing/1238849/fossfreedom-at-Flattr "fossfreedom")
fossfreedom commented 11 years ago

@asermax - I've updated the README. However I'm concerned that when I click on your Flattr link it gives a 404 error. Please can you advise?

asermax commented 11 years ago

Apparently the link I gave you initially works well using the chrome plugin from my profile page on github, and keeps working for a little while, but then it starts giving 404. So I did the same thing as you and created a "thing" since it seems to be more consistent. Let me know if it works alright for you!

fossfreedom commented 11 years ago

yep - looks good :)

thanks - (small) donation sent
