It would be very neat to have a album artis filter:

This is already implemented. You can use this feature by selecting the corresponding option after clicking the magnifier inside the search entry on the top right corner of the plugin's source. It may not be easy to spot, but that's the implementation used on all rhythmbox search entries d:

Not exactly what I wanted. I want to browse and sort all music by Album Artist. This makes the browsing more easy with big VA-compilations.

Ahhh, that's what you meant, sorry for the misunderstanding. Actually the "Artist" sorting option on the plugin's source toolbar uses the album artist to sort. There's an exception tho, that's when an album haves multiple tracks with different artists; in that case, the album artist is considered as "Various Artists". That have been working so far, but if this behavior isn't what you expect, let us know (now that i think about it, we should check every track and check if they all contain the same album artist before asigning the "Various Artists" tag).

Also, you may want to check this other issue: #83; I think it may be related somehow (maybe you want a compilation to be chopped down by artist?).

If none of what I said pinpointed your problem, maybe you should give us an example and a little more detailed explanation of what you may change and we'll see what we can do :3

ok, so it should be good. but i have a great collection of singles. the have the same name/tag on album and albumartist. but they all have different artist names. it seemt to me they are listed/sorted by the artist name and not albumartist as you describe. i have read that there are different methods out there. could it be related to something like that: http://www.blisshq.com/music-library-management-blog/2010/10/12/how-to-use-album_artist/ ???

Would you care to give us an example? We don't necesary need the files, just an example case, with some data about the albums and their tracks, how they are showed/sorted and how you expect it to be showed/sorted. You can include some screenshots if you think they are necesary.

I don't quite understand what's the issue, so that would give me a more concrete idea.

I checked the albums that apeared wrong in EasyTAG and it seemed to be correct but to be sure I updated the tags. Then I reopened Rhythmbox some times but no changes was to see. But all of a sudden now later on the day it seems like the library is updated correctly and everything appears to be fine :)

Conclusion: My tags was wrong and Rhythmbox is slow at updating big libraries.

so, you can close this issue now :)

thanks and sorry
